Over here at Hanover & Prince, we don’t care much for science fiction. In fact, we generally avoid it like the plague. We like non-fiction books, documentaries. And beer.
That being said, we LOOOOOOOOVE “Fringe”, the new sci-fi show on Fox from J.J. Abrams, the guy behind “Alias”, “Lost” and “Cloverfield.” It’s an edgy, creative roller coaster ride every week.
Oh, AND it takes place in Boston!
If you’ve watched any of the first three episodes, you’ve been treated to some gorgeous shots of the Financial District, Cambridge and the Zakim Bridge. Most of the geographic references in the show have been accurate, and we give the producers a lot of credit for that. Accurate, that is, until Episode 3, when an FBI team heads to South Station to track down a suspect. We were curious as to how they would play this, and doubted they actually filmed anything on location in the always-busy terminal.
We ended up VERY disappointed at the awful attempt at recreating South Station (see below). I mean, was this seriously the best they could do??? One would think they could have filmed at a larger train station somewhere or at least made a halfhearted attempt to build something larger on a sound stage in LA. The below pictures are on par with the Greyhound station in Ithaca, NY where we went to school.
Pathetic! Lord, we hope people around the country don’t think this is actually our major transportation hub…
Ithaca’s bus station was pretty creepy.
wait wait wait, it gets better
South Station is located on BUENA VISTA Ave.
lol. nice. As we all know, a great many Boston streets have names give them by the original Spanish-speaking settlers of New England.
apparently they at least masked out the palm trees…

More than just what Stoughton looks like. I mean, they acted like Stoughton was Charlestown or something. Then the technician said “Ditton” not “Dighton”…
That’s just a start. There’s more at the link.
There is a Buena Vista Road in Somerville, near Davis Square station.
